FootballMoises Caicedo: Internet Erupts As £115M Man Concedes Penalty As Chelsea Seek Equaliser vs West Ham
- Chelsea lost their first London derby of the season 3-1 away at West Ham
- British record transfer Moises Caicedo came off the bench for his debut
- A disastrous evening was capped by the £115m man conceding a penalty while the team seek equaliser
It was an evening to forget for British record transfer Moises Caicedo when he came off the bench to make his debut against West Ham, but added salt to the injury.
Chelsea began the game on the front foot but conceded to a corner after James Ward-Prowse assisted Nayef Aguerd, who beat Robert Sanchez at the near post.
Young midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka pulled one back for Chelsea minutes later. The Blues could have ended the half in the lead, but Enzo Fernandez missed a penalty after Raheem Sterling was fouled.
Caicedo was introduced in the second half for his debut but struggled to settle into the game and capped off the disastrous evening for Chelsea by conceding a late penalty which Lucas Paqueta scored.
Reactions to Caicedo's performance
Chelsea were involved in a transfer battle with Liverpool for the Ecuadorian midfielder, and went above the initial valuation of £100m quoted by Brighton, eventually paying £115m.
This did not do the player any good, as rival fans pounced on him after the game. The bulk of the criticisms came from Liverpool fans, who are bitter at the manner in which his move went, as well as Arsenal fans, who have been a victim of a hijack from Arsenal.

Chelsea unveil Caicedo with Afrobeat
Sports Brief reported that Chelsea unveiled Moises Caicedo with a Nigerian song from Pheelz and BNXN titled Finesse, and for those who understand, it passed a message.
The song preaches going all out for what you want, even if it means going broke later, and that is what the Blues did. It also connotes not falling in love with who doesn't want you, in the case of Liverpool agreeing on a fee with Brighton despite Caicedo preferring Chelsea.
